It’s been a busy one.
I just got back from a whirlwind European tour that included a training camp in Madrid sandwiched between the Grand Prix of Spain and the Ion Cornianu & Ladislau Simon International in Bucharest, Romania. I wrestled pretty well overall placing 5th in Spain and winning the Bronze medal in Romania. There are definitely some areas of my wrestling I would like to work on, but it is opportunities like these that are invaluable to my development as an athlete. Testing myself against and training with such high quality competitors is really important, especially leading up to Olympic Trials in December.
Earlier in the summer I was fortunate enough to compete at the Senior Pan-American Championships in Santiago, Chile. It was a great experience taking part in my first Pan-American Championships where I placed 8th in my weight class and the women’s team placed first as a group and we won the team championship trophy. Gaining more international experience and exposure to high level competition has been one of my goals for 2015 and I think I have accomplished just that. Since the beginning of the year I have competed and trained in France, Hungary, Sweden, Chile, Spain, and Romania while getting to wrestle with some very talented wrestlers (including some World and Olympic medalists) from China, Poland, France, Cuba, United States, Sweden, Romania, Moldova, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Mexico, Hungary, Germany, Spain, and Italy. I am so excited that I have been able to keep learning, improving, and growing in the sport that I love so much.
This week I travel to Ontario to visit my family as well as train with World Champion Jessie MacDonald. I’m looking forward to what lies ahead in the coming months.
